When you make homemade seitan from washed bread flour save the water to make this tasty vegan bacon. You can also buy the powdered starch to make this recipe.
Meaty part-Ingredients:
2 c. starch water
1/4 c. soy sauce
1 tsp. smoked paprika
2 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. onion powder
1tsp. sea salt
2 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke
2 tbsp. maple syrup
Fatty part- Ingredients:
1c. starch water
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. liquid smoke
Instructions:
In two separate bowls whisk together ingredients.
Lightly oil spray a skillet on medium high heat.
Pour in a thin layer (similar to a crape) of both liquids in a marbling alternation.
When the top is a little dry flip it over and cook the other side then put aside on a plate and repeat until liquid is finish.
Cut your crape/pancakes into bacon strips.
You can spread them out single layer on a sheet pan to freeze individually; then store in a freezer bag for later use.
To cook immediately - place 2 Tbsp. oil in a skillet on medium high and fry you strips to your desired texture. Cook longer for crunchy but watch carefully not to burn.
